Dear Chester Upland Family,
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a public health alert due to the increase of swine flu cases in the United States. To the best of my knowledge there have been no confirmed cases in Delaware County. I write to assure you that the Chester Upland School District is monitoring the situation and will share further guidance with you as it becomes available.
At this time, you are advised to continue to take the general precautions for preventing seasonal flu and other communicable diseases:
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
· Throw used tissues in the trash.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread that way.
· Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you or your children feel ill, please contact your primary care provider, follow his/her directions and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. If you have questions about your child's health in school, or if you need help obtaining health insurance or a health care provider for your child, please contact your school nurse.
Additional information about the Swine Flu can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/swineflu_you.htm
I will continue to keep you updated. Stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Gregory E. Thornton, Ed.D.
Superintendent
